What are some different ways to trap a coyote?
Coyotes are some of the most unwelcomed pests. When you notice them on your property, you should work towards getting them out in the fastest time possible. You can get coyotes off your property by trapping them. Let’s consider how to remove coyotes effectively by trapping. Because they are smart animals, trapping coyotes can be challenging. You want to choose the right trap and place it strategically. You also want to bait the trap well enough so that they enter the trap.
Choosing the right trap for coyotes
When trapping a coyote, you have to choose from the different available traps. These traps include the leg-hold trap, live cages, and snares.
Leg-hold traps: These traps work by seizing the limb of the critter. Thus, when you use them, you have to interact directly with the trapped coyote to either relocate or euthanize it. Leg-hold traps may not be the best option if you do not want to interact directly with trapped coyotes, especially since they will struggle in the process.
Live cages: These traps are good for when you want minimal direct contact with the trapped animal. They are large box-like cages into which coyotes enter and are unable to come out. Once trapped, you can then relocate the coyote away from your property.
Snares: These are lethal traps for coyotes. When you install snares, you can kill the pests. Thus, the use of snares is considered an inhumane approach.

Setting traps for coyotes
After choosing the right trap, find an appropriate place for setting it. It is noteworthy that the critters are creatures of habit. Thus, they are most likely to go in and out of your property through an established route. Find that route and place the trap on it. Be sure to conceal it properly and remove all human scent that will deter the coyote.
You can remove the human scent by covering the trap with straw or spraying apple cider as you leave the area.
Baiting coyote traps
Apart from the proper placement of the trap, you also want to apply bait to attract coyotes to traps. The best baits are items loved by the animal to be trapped, in this case, coyotes. Watermelon and meat are good bait choices for coyotes. Place the bait to lead to the trap. For live cage traps, you also place the bait within the trap in a place that is close to the door. For the coyote to access the trap, it should also have to trigger the trap.

When trapping a coyote, it is important to have a clear plan on what to do with the trapped animal. When handling the trapped animal, you also want to wear protective clothing such as gloves.
The laws protecting coyotes could differ across locations. Thus, it is important that you are familiar with the current laws in your location. Be sure to apply the trapping method that best serves your needs and follows your local laws.
