Thanks to their flexibility when it comes to the environment around them, they no longer require a vast green space as a territory. It’s been proven that even a small, green area that allows them to hunt is a suitable place for their home. Like any other animal, coyotes look for two things when choosing their new home: an adequate source of food and water. They are able to survive in small areas as long as the supplies of water and food last, but when that changes, these mammals are forced to expand their territory. Coyotes can expand their hunting space up to 10 miles, which may seem like a lot, but in fact, is considerably smaller compared to wild coyotes found in the jungle. Sometimes, it can mean that the coyotes will wander into urban areas led by hunger and thirst. Even though these animals try to stay away from humans as much as possible, lack of food or water supply may lead them near our properties. Luckily, coyotes don’t tend to target our pets or garbage we leave on the streets. These hunters prefer to stick to their regular diet of small rodents, deer, rabbit, vegetables, and fruit.
