Should I use poison to get rid of a fox?

The regular destruction caused by foxes can push you to the limit. But how would you get rid of these cunning creatures? This is a question that every desperate homeowner has. Foxes not only bring destruction, but their presence may also mean that infectious diseases are a bite or scratch away. Their nocturnal nature may make it even harder for you to find the most effective way to get rid of them. The most opted way is adding poison to the garbage outside. But is this the right way to go about it? Is killing them a sure way of getting rid of them? And how effective is the poisoning method? The poisoning method is not effective nor a good way of getting rid of foxes.

Reasons against fox poisoning

There are numerous reasons why using poison to get rid of a fox is not the right way to go about it. Here are the major reasons:

It’s inhumane– Poisoning food for the fox to eat is one of the most inhumane ways of getting rid of them. The fox normally feeds on leftovers. If you poison their cause of attraction to your backyard, the poison will surely kill them in an unsightly way. Once it has consumed the food, its body functions stop working properly. This continues for a while and then ultimately leads to death.

Foul smell– The process is a tough one for the fox. This means it will run in panic as a way of decreasing the pain.

When the process gets too hard it will stop and take its last breath. The destination, unknown. The body will start decaying causing the whole area to smell of the fox’s carcass. Just imagine having flown at the corner of your backyard or a decaying carcass was hidden where you are unable to find it.

A threat to your kids– In some cases, the poison may land in your children’s hands. And knowing the naiveness of children, they will end up consuming the poison. This means that instead of dealing with the problem at hand you will have doubled the issue. There is no reason for putting your children in harm’s way just to eradicate the foxes. There are other methods that you can use instead.

Best way to get rid of foxes

Since poisoning is not the best way to go about it, there are several other methods you can use.

Use a repellant– This is the least harmful way of getting the foxes away from your home. A homemade repellent made of garlic, capsaicin, and chilli pepper may be an effective mixture. Just by spraying it, the foxes will not come any closer.

Clean your property– The foxes are attracted to unsecured trashcans. So if your property has it, make a point of cleaning it.
