Are snakes good pets?

If you are in the market for a new pet to keep around the house, you may be considering a slithery reptile to call your own. You may, however, want to reconsider this as an option. Make sure you are actually able to handle owning a snake. Even something as simple as feeding can be incredibly difficult when it comes to snake ownership.

To determine if a snake will make a good pet more so comes down to determining if you will make a good snake owner. Snake’s definitely can make good pets if you find that answer to be yes. Here is a list of some of the reasons why we think that snakes can be a great addition to your household.

They are very easy to keep!

Despite common misconceptions that taking care of a snake is a hard and arduous process, it is actually incredibly simple. Snakes really are not terribly complicated creatures to take care of, provided you have all of the necessary tools at your disposal.

They don’t take up your time!

Whereas animals like dogs and cats tend to take up a good amount of your day with the care they require, snakes are more akin to staying in their fish tank. For the most part, your snake will be content to live within its enclosure.

They are inexpensive to care for!

The cost of purchasing a snake and its enclosure will be, by far, the most expensive single purchase you make for your snake in its lifetime (other than veterinary care).

The usual, day to day care of pet snakes is not costly at all. Because they do not eat as often, you likely will be spending less on them then you would on any of your other pets.

They don’t stink!

As long as you are proactive about cleaning your snake’s enclosure every so often, you will find that they don’t produce many scents at all.

They are quiet!

Snakes do not make much noise at all. Occasionally they will make a faint buzzy sound to vocalize, but it is not noisy and very non-intrusive.

They don’t need much space!

Snakes are typically content living in a small, warm enclosure (depending on their size of course!).

If after reading this list a snake seems like a good fit for you, there is a good chance that it is! If you know anyone who owns snakes you would benefit greatly from asking them if you could have some hands-on experience with them before you commit to owning one yourself.
